Saving things for ‘best’ is one of my worst habits, and it’s a bad habit that has extended into my professional life. The way it shows up is that I’ll be sent a parcel of beauty ‘newness’ and instead of diving straight in, I’ll save it until I can give it the time and attention I feel it deserves in order to adequately test and trial it.
In that sense, it’s actually a form of reverence for the brand and products that are neatly piled by my desk yet to be unwrapped, opened and used, but it does mean I’m not your woman if you want new news.
One parcel that has remained untouched for months is the one I received from VIEVE containing the Bathleisure collection. Housed in chic packaging you’d expect to find waiting for you in a 5-star hotel bathroom and featuring The Signature Candle, £40.00, Bath & Body Soak, £25.00, Bath Body and Massage Oil, £27.00, and Bath Salts, £27.00, the collection screams ‘luxury’ before you even use it.
I hadn’t even snuck a sniff of the signature scent, until today…
Without wanting to be an attention seeker, life lately has been a little fraught. You know when any sense of your normal routine flies out of the window and things like showers become entirely functional and about being in and out as quickly as possible?
Today, however, there was a sense of reprieve and a little less urgency, so as I made my way to the bathroom, I detoured into the home office and grabbed the Bath & Body Soak, which can also be used as a shower gel, and the Bath, Body Massage Oil.
I wanted to be wrapped in the luxury the products promised, a sensorial hug if you will and to feel as though I was making an effort, and they didn’t disappoint.
The Bath & Body Soak lathers like a dream and immediately envelopes you in hydrating soapy suds and the signature scent of Neroli, Amber and Santal. There’s a sharpness to the fragrance which is invigorating and energising, while delivering a delightfully soft cleanse to skin.
It might be my favourite bathroom scent ever and pleasingly at the other end of the spectrum of those bath and body products that prioritise fruit, floral and cotton-y fragrances, which honestly make me gag.
As I rinsed this away, I was praying the scent would linger on my skin (Yes, this is my nudge to VIEVE to please create a body spray or perfume!) but the extra layer of Bath, Body Massage Oil locks in a hint of it in an extremely light but incredibly hydrating - and not at all messy or slippery - oil.
This range feels as though it was created more for the bath than the shower, but I don’t think you get any less out of it by not soaking in the tub. I do enjoy a bath, but rarely, and my preference is to shower and then cocoon in a dressing gown for a lie down and a nap rather than lingering in hot water - but that’s just me.
However you choose to enjoy VIEVE Bathleisure, I can honestly say that it’s one of the best bath and body ranges I’ve tried in a long time. It looks great, feels great and smells incredible and this is another example of the brand’s founder, Jamie Genevieve, bringing something to market that is nothing short of excellent.
Truth be told, I’m still going to save this for ‘best’ but by ‘best’ in this instance, I mean once or twice a week.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I may be a beauty writer who has enjoyed trialling thousands of beauty products across every price bracket over the last 20+ years, but I’m also a thrifty consumer, and for me, really enjoying this is to maintain its status as a treat/luxury rather than become accustomed to it as an every day experience.
