It has been nearly two years since Rare Beauty launched into the UK, exclusively through Space NK, and one thing has become clear - it’s a considered collection of products with exceptional formulations. I have only one gripe with the brand and it has less to do with my experience and more with my concern for Selena Gomez’s bottom line.
Rare Beauty, if you didn’t know, is the beauty brand from the former Disney star (I actually interviewed Selena back when she was just 16 years old and on Wizards of Waverley Place) and current Only Murders in the Building lead.
The pigment pay-off of the products is so good that you need but a pin-prick amount to get a pleasing result. I’ve had four of her Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blushes since February two years ago and they all register as brand new despite being well used. I can’t see I’d need to even consider replacing these for another two years.
There is newness though and it’s a gear-shift from the brand, away from colour cosmetics towards body products and I was invited to the Rare Beauty Comfort Club Pop-Up to find out more. Think soft furnishings, cosy corners, comfort food, scented candles and a reading corner - the perfect environment in which to relax and unwind and tap into your Zen.
Though it is a collection of body products, it’s really a body and mind collection with each impacting your emotional wellbeing, via careful fragrance composition. It’s a shift in tone that’s entirely in keeping with Selena who has long been a mental health advocate.
The collection includes the Find Comfort Body & Hair Fragrance Mist, £29.00, Find Comfort Hydrating Body Lotion, £29.00, Find Comfort Hydrating Hand Cream, £19.00 and Find Comfort Stop & Soothe Aromatherapy Pen, £21.00.
On first glance I dismissed the Mist because mists and sprays are much-loved by a younger demographic and don’t quite meet the level of sophisticate I want from a fragrance. However, this is refreshing and uplifting, thanks to lemon zest, jasmine and cashmere wood, and perhaps most-importantly subtle.
The Stop & Soothe Aromatherapy Pen also felt a bit too young for me until I dotted the gel behind my ears before bed and found the combination of a soothing peppermint tingle and hint of lavender immediately relaxing.
The Find Comfort Hydrating Body Lotion, £28.00, is refreshingly light on the skin but packs a hydrating punch. A little goes a long way and the scent, which is the same as the Body & Fragrance Mist, £29.00, lingers on the skin.
Perhaps my favourite of the collection, not just because the ultra-hydrating and non-slippery formula is so easily absorbed, but because of the genius design is the hand cream. This is the hand cream you’ll have in every handbag and pocket that won’t leak, come undone or take up too much room.
It’s like I said, this brand considers everything and ultimately makes its users lives a little bit easier.
